Round Engagement Rings

Brilliant and full of fire, round engagement rings are striking for their simplistic, iconic beauty. Round shaped diamonds are also known as brilliant cut diamonds because of their ideal proportions. The way round diamonds dazzle light, more reflective than any other shape, make them the most popular shape for engagement rings. Their spectacular splendor fit any type of setting from a stunning solitaire to the center stone on an elaborate or vintage band.

Great Heights’ Selection

Since round diamonds are so versatile, you will not have trouble finding an engagement ring style to fit your every desire. At Great Heights, we have signature styles that will fit every taste — from our more traditional engagement ring styles, such as classic or solitaire, to a more intricate ring in the vintage or modern families. In fact, only a handful of our rings don’t accommodate a round diamond. Using our ring builder, it’s easier than ever to assemble the round engagement ring of your dreams.

A Quest for Perfection

Traditionally, round diamonds had an Old Mine or European cut that tried to maximize its color and size. Those stones are “mostly round” since diamond-cutters chiseled them by hand and have larger, less uniformly shaped facets. In the late 1800s, new steam-driven and motorized tools allowed jewelers to shape diamonds more precisely, fine-tuning facets and craving angles. The round brilliant diamond we know today was invented in 1919 by Marcel Tolkowsky. He created a mathematical formula for cutting diamonds that, over time, has been altered to perfection. Today, a round engagement ring has 58 light catching and reflecting facets – more than any other kind of diamond shape – making it a breathtaking show of glittering light.

Tips to Get the Sparkle

A Safe Choice - Admired for its versatility, round diamonds are considered the most wearable stone. A round engagement ring can be show-stopping with a simple band or simply sublime surrounded by a pave halo or when nestled between accent diamonds. If you or your partner are unsure of what shape to get, you really can’t go wrong with a round engagement ring.

It’s a Science - When it comes to the 4 C’s of a round engagement ring, it is the only diamond shape where you’ll need to make a decision for color, clarity, carat, and cut. This is because round shaped diamonds are the only shape with a specific cut grade. With that being said, there’s a science to balancing cut, color, and clarity to get a phenomenal diamond at the best price. Sometimes it is simply a game of give and take. Work with one of our diamond experts to get the best formula for your round engagement ring.

Bigger & Better - Unlike some shapes, such an oval, that can appear larger than they really are, the round shape leaves nothing up to the imagination. Luckily for you, lab-grown diamonds can be up to 40% less expensive than their mined counterparts. That means you can get a round engagement ring that is 40% larger than the same ring with a mined diamond. There are also settings, such as the halo, that can help make a round diamond appear much larger due to the circle of smaller diamonds that surrounds your center stone.
